9. How can we get the Zakys for the hospital and who usually pays for them?
Mothers and family members can find stores that carry the Zaky by going to our Store Locator. Hospitals may receive a donation of 2 Zakys through our OBOZ Program
We offer quantity discounts for hospitals, just contact us for more information.
About who pays for the Zakys, some hospitals use grants, donations, or they include them in the developmental budget. For e.g. The New Hanover Regional Medical Center NICU in Wilmington North Carolina received a grant from the March of Dimes to purchase Zakys. Some hospitals make the Zaky a chargeable item to the patient. If the hospital only provides one Zaky to each patient, the mother or family member chooses to buy the other on her own so the baby is never without a Zaky. The Zaky is also a good idea for mothers/families that want to donate something on behalf/memory of their babies as a ‘thank you” gift to the Unit.
10. What can we do to help the patients until we can supply the Zakys through the hospital?
Mothers want to help their babies, and they will appreciate just to have the information about the Zaky. We have a couple of suggestions:
Refer them to our website where we have information about the Zaky and it also lists the retail stores that carry the Zaky
Contact us and we will be happy to send you a poster for the bulletin board, brochures and other information to distribute to the mothers and health professionals, including the directory of retail stores.
If we do not have a retail store that carries the Zaky in your city, please consider requesting the gift shop of the hospital to carry the Zaky through our wholesale program , or contact us and we will contact the gift shop directly.
11. Do hospitals allow mothers to bring Zakys to the Unit?
Absolutely. The rules and procedures that apply to blankets, clothes, etc may be also applied to the Zakys. If moms are allowed to bring her own items for her baby, they are allowed to bring the Zaky, and she takes care of the Zaky as she does her other items. The Zaky has been approved by the Infection Control departments of all the hospitals where it is used, and they prefer having a couple of Zakys instead of all the other items that families usually bring. As one father said: the stuffed animals are to decorate and to make the parents feel better, the Zaky actually helps the baby.
